Wheatley Group Projects, Glasgow & Edinburgh
Evinox with Minibems are delivering £3.4m in fuel and maintenance savings to Wheatley Group over five years, on the operation of their heat networks.
Minibems are retrofitting 1,700 apartments across Glasgow and Edinburgh with their patented heat network optimisation technology, delivering significant cost savings to the operator (Wheatley Housing), and improved thermal comfort and customer service for residents.
CO2 emissions are reduced by up to 1 tonne per household per year, equivalent to changing one petrol car to electric, for every home installed. 1,000 properties have been successfully upgraded, with the project set for completion by mid-2025.
- Status – Various for each project
- Client – Wheatley Group
Key stats
- £3.4 million in savings
- £2.7 million in fuel savings
- £676,783 in maintenance savings
- 1 tonne of CO2 savings per home
- 1,700 homes
- Four hours retrofit installation time per home
Project details
Phase one of the project installed heat interface unit (HIU), pumps, valves and sensors and Minibems patented optimisation technology into apartments.
Phase two of the project, is improving the heat energy centres that provide the homes with heating and hot water, leading to further savings. Retrofit hardware and technology is installed and operational in four hours.
Efficiency is not just reflected in cost savings for Wheatley Group and its tenants, maintenance is also expected to be improved. Currently, there are over 1,400 maintenance callouts per year. With Evinox, this is expected to fall to under 300, drastically improving operating efficiency.
What may be the most important element of the project is the environmental impact it makes. Minibems technology is saving around 1 tonne of CO2 per household per year – the equivalent of removing nearly 1,700 petrol cars from the road.
