Causes of Legionella

Legionnaires Disease is a rightfully dreaded bacterial infection that’s caused primarily by the shortcomings of modern technology. The bacteria causing this potentially lethal infection – Legionella – thrive in warm, stagnant water. Tap systems of large buildings, such as hospitals, hotels, nursing homes, schools and other public buildings account for the majority of the cases reported in recent years.

When offered favorable conditions the Legionella bacteria will grow and multiply fast. Stagnant water within the temperature range of 20-50˚c provides the perfect environment. In complex and comprehensive tap water systems, there is often a risk for conditions like these being established due to periods of low water consumption or “dead legs” in piping.

Evinox AquaSan Anti-Legionella System

The AquaSan guarantees permanent elimination of Legionella in domestic hot water and distribution systems. The unit is installed in a balanced distribution pipe network with re-circulation and assures continuous pasturisation and domestic hot water production. The system operates a thermal treatment without the requirement for chemical additives; it heats water to 70˚c and keeps it at this temperature for a period long enough to kill the bacteria effectively.

Since the system includes a heat recovery cycle, the disinfection process consumes no extra energy. Instead of diluting the system with cold water, the AquaSan maintains 70˚c 24 hours per day at a specific point in the circuit where water enters and returns, rather than a punctual and repetitive thermal crash treatment. All the heat used for disinfection will therefore be recovered providing high energy efficiency.

The AquaSan is available in two variations, either contained within a cabinet or mounted on a frame. Both units are compact, fully assembled and supplied ready to be connected.
